If you follow “The Articulate Trainer,” you may recall our April blog post about exporting a Storyline 360 course as a single video file. If you missed it, don’t worry, you can check it out here. The most common follow-up question we get on this topic is: “Now what?” Or perhaps:
- What can I do with my video file?
- How do I get the video file into my Learning Management System (or LMS) so that my learners can watch it?
- And, how do I know they watched it?
These are all excellent questions! So, let’s address them in this “as heard in training” blog post: “I exported my Storyline 360 course as a video file – now what?”
Add the Video to Another Course
The most common way to use your video is to add it to another e-learning course, and then publish that course for use in your Learning Management System (LMS). Storyline 360, Rise 360, and Studio 360 all provide this option:
- In Storyline 360, you select the Insert tab, and then choose Video in the Media section.
- In Rise 360, you add a Multimedia Block and then upload your video.
- In Studio 360, you select the Articulate tab in PowerPoint, and then select Video from the Insert section.
Okay, that all sounds great, right? But what if the video you created from Storyline 360 contains all of the content that you need to present? In that case, it would probably feel awkward to use an additional authoring tool just to play your single video, right?
So, if you only need to show a video, there’s a better way to distribute it and track it in your LMS. How? By using Review 360! Read on to find out how that’s done!
Step 1 – Upload the Video to Review 360
Did you know that there’s a link in Review 360 that allows you to directly upload a video or zipped course package? Yep, it’s there! Simply go to your Review 360 account and select the “upload a file” link near the top. Almost any video file will work – it doesn’t even have to be a Storyline 360-created video!
Step 2 – Export the Video for Your LMS
After uploading your video to Review 360, you can export it to a format suitable for your LMS.
Videos in Review 360 can be identified by the camera icon in the lower right-hand corner of the video thumbnail.
When you move your mouse over the thumbnail, you’ll notice an ellipsis (“…”).
Select the ellipsis to expand the dropdown menu of options, and then select “Export to LMS.“
Step 3 – Choose Your Preferred Settings
After selecting “Export to LMS,” you can now choose your export setting from the LMS dropdown menu, which includes:
- SCORM 1.2
- SCORM 2004
- AICC
- xAPI
You can also determine what percentage of the video must be viewed for completion in the LMS Reporting field.
Step 4 – Select “Export” and Save the Zipped Package
Once you’ve finalized your settings, you can export your video by selecting the “Export” button. You can choose where to save your zipped package, which is now ready to upload to your LMS.
And that’s all there is to it! With Review 360, it’s easy to turn any video into an LMS package that can be tracked. How have you used video in your e-learning projects? Reach out and let us know! We’d love to hear from you!
